The Ping and Amy Chao Family Foundation was founded in California’s Silicon Valley in 2005 by Ping Chao and his wife Amy Chao. It was established exclusively for charitable purposes. The foundation aims to fund and nurture initiatives improving the health and well-being of children and youth in economically disadvantaged regions throughout the world; promoting the spirit of philanthropy and developing awareness of non-profit practices and opportunities for service for the younger generation of China and the greater Chinese Diaspora.  Read in Chinese

Mission & Values

Investing in the Future by Meeting Critical Needs

We regard children as the foundation of the future. Therefore by promoting and supporting projects, which eliminate disease, assist the chronically ill, raise awareness and sensitivity to health education and practices we seek to give children in economically disadvantaged regions hope and opportunity for healthy and productive lives.

Developing Philanthropic Vision and Understanding

As China assumes a greater role in world events and Chinese develop a growing impact and influence on the world around them, we believe it is vital to foster the concept of service and commitment to philanthropy with a global perspective among Chinese youth and young adults.

Tapping Unrealized Charitable Potential

We identify, explore and develop human and social capital and other productive resources in rapidly emerging regions of the world for purposes of responding to a range of philanthropic needs.

Responsible Stewardship

Our grants are focused on areas and opportunities where our assets and expertise can add the most value. We give high priority to projects which are cost-effective, can be replicated and scaled upwards to reach larger populations in need.

Active Local Involvement and Support

We purposefully invest in efforts that afford active involvement by local individuals, organizations and health authorities from within a given community or region. We do this to ensure the continuity and long-term success of these efforts.

Functional Expertise

We strive to work with acknowledged experts in various fields of medicine, environmental studies, social work and psychology, etc to setup, implement and review programs consistent with our mission. We encourage all program team members to incorporate best practices into our various projects and initiatives. We solicit evaluation of our program results and reporting by qualified third parties.
