The Ping and Amy Chao Family Foundation was founded in California’s Silicon Valley in 2005 by Ping Chao and his wife Amy Chao. It was established exclusively for charitable purposes. The foundation aims to fund and nurture initiatives improving the health and well-being of children and youth in economically disadvantaged regions throughout the world; promoting the spirit of philanthropy and developing awareness of non-profit practices and opportunities for service for the younger generation of China and the greater Chinese Diaspora.  Read in Chinese

PESI Student Leadership Program

We have been sponsoring a student leadership program at Tsinghua University,
Beijing, for several years. 30 outstanding men and women are chosen from every
freshman class of over 3,000 to participate in programs that aim to develop
social concern and cross-cultural competence in these future leaders of China.

Beginning in summer 2007, the Ping & Amy Chao Family Foundation is providing
funding to initiate a new program at Fudan University, Shanghai — the “Fudan
Elite Leadership Program” as named by their Student Affairs Office.

Each year, 30 graduating seniors and 15 M.A. students entering doctoral programs
are chosen to participate in three successive summer programs:

  • Exchange with American students to develop cross-cultural competence
  • Community service and ethnographic research on poverty in rural ChinaCommunity service in rural China
  • Study tour to Hong Kong to learn about education, business, government,
and non-profit sectors of this international city

Tour of Hong Kong’s High Court

In summer 2007, these programs were simultaneously launched for three cohorts
of Fudan students. The feedback was very positive based on surveys and written
reports from the students.
